New Village Arts continues the “Around the World” themed season by spending the holidays in New York City with THE 1940’s RADIO HOUR. The golden age of radio comes to life in this nostalgia-filled holiday favorite. It’s December, 1942. The world is at war and “Strike Up the Band” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” are topping the charts. New York’s little-radio-station-that-could, WOV, is about to air its final broadcast of the holiday-themed Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade. Nominated for five Drama Desk Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1980, THE 1940’s RADIO HOUR is chock-full of favorite tunes – including “Ain’t She Sweet,” “Blue Moon,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” that will guarantee you have a swingin’ Holiday Season. 1940’s will be directed by long-time NVA artist Dana Case with musical direction by Tony Houck. Mr. Houck also plays piano and sings in the show as “Zoot”. Interestingly, 1940’s was written by Walton Jones, the former Artistic Director of the Carlsbad Playreaders, and the current President of the Playreaders, Jack Missett, is appearing in the show as “Pops.” The choreographer, Danielle Levas, also appears in the show as Connie – this truly is an ensemble experience.
