A Morning of Vision, Stories, and Celebration at Village Voices

July’s Village Voices brought the Carlsbad Village community together at New Village Arts for a morning filled with inspiration, connection, and a few standout moments we won’t soon forget.

We started the day with a delicious breakfast from Señor Grubby’s. Hot breakfast quesadillas were a hit, and the coffee hosted by Revolution Roasters, and breakfast sweets generously sponsored by First Team Real Estate, kept everyone energized and ready for a full morning of updates and conversation.

We welcomed several new CVA members and heard from Brendan Foote of Fabric Investments, who spoke about his passion for adaptive reuse and building with purpose. He talked about looking at existing spaces and asking what the Village truly needs and what would enhance everything already happening here.
Brendan gave a preview of two upcoming projects. The Roosevelt, a mixed-use development planned for Roosevelt Street, will bring 23 residential units, retail space, and a public plaza to the heart of downtown. He also introduced BLVD | BEACH, a sustainable project planned for the corner of Carlsbad Boulevard and Beech Avenue. With ground floor retail, an upstairs event space, and a rooftop terrace, it’s designed to serve locals and visitors while blending seamlessly into the Village’s character.

We also heard from Tim Wrisley, publisher of Carlsbad Magazine, who shared a heartfelt story about how the magazine came to life. He spoke about growing up in Carlsbad, how his connection to the community shaped his journey, and how that deep love for this place led to building a magazine that celebrates the people and stories that make Carlsbad feel like home. His words were personal and genuine, and they reminded us how powerful local storytelling can be.
The most touching part of the morning came when Christine Davis, Executive Director of the Carlsbad Village Association, was honored for her ten years of leadership. She was recognized with three separate awards for her contributions to the Village and the impact of her work.
- From San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer (via Cipriano Vargas) officially proclaimed July 8 as “Christine Davis Day” throughout the County.
- From Congressman Mike Levin’s office, she received a Certificate of Special Recognition for her outstanding leadership of Village Voices.
- And from Assemblymember Tasha Boerner's office, Christine was awarded a California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition, applauding her continued contributions to the local economy and community-building efforts.
It was a well-deserved tribute to someone who has helped shape Carlsbad Village into the thriving, connected hub it is today.
This month’s Village Voices was a reminder of what makes Carlsbad Village so unique. It’s not just the projects or the businesses. It’s the people. The ones who show up, who share their stories, and who continue to ask how we can grow stronger together.
We can’t wait to see you at the next one on September 9.
A special thank you to CVA's amazing photographer, Tanya Perez Photography.
