What's New in the Village

Blog Post - December 9, 2015

Category: What's New

There's a lot happening in the village as the year comes to a close.  Join us at the last Village Voices Meeting of the year to be held 8:30am Wednesday, December 16th at the Terrace Meeting Room above the Daily News Cafe.  We will have a short meeting to discuss the Holiday Window Decorating Contest and award ceremony being held Friday, December 18th from 4 to 5 and will also discuss a new and exciting winter event taking place in January.

Following the Village Voices meeting you are welcome to stay for the Village and Barrio Master Plan Open House to learn about the future of the village as it relates to parking, traffic, building, and so much more.  The Open House runs from 9am to 3pm and you are welcome to attend any portion of it.  City staff and consultants will be on hand to discuss the Village Master Plan and can answer any questions you have.  For more information on the Village Master Plan meeting schedule, visit the city website at:  Village and Barrio Master Plan.

Starting Wednesday, December 9th at 5pm you will see a more festive and lively Grand Avenue.  As part of the city's decorative lighting program, Grand Avenue has received a variety of uplighting fixtures to bathe the trees on Grand Avenue with colored light.  The colored lights will not only provide illumination, but will add an ambience to the street where it once was dark.

The lighting program is very sophisticated and can be programmed to alternate light color, lighting pattern, and more.

“Grand Avenue is a spectacular setting and we want to showcase the avenue for our local businesses, residents and visitors,” said City of Carlsbad Traffic Engineer Doug Bilse. The city’s Transportation Division helped with the project by placing conduit that carries utility lines beneath the street level when new storm drains were installed along Grand Avenue earlier this year.

Come join us at 5pm to see Grand Avenue take on a whole new look!
