Witch Creek Winery: New Owner, New Energy, Same Heartfelt Spirit

Witch Creek Winery has been a favorite spot in Carlsbad Village for over ten years. Joel Tabachnick, a longtime member, recently took over as the new owner. He and his fiancée, Courtney, have a strong connection to the place. “Whenever we had something to celebrate, we’d find ourselves there,” Joel says. Their dog Hammy also grew up alongside the winery, making it a place of personal significance. A particularly memorable moment came when Joel proposed to Courtney and they celebrated immediately with a drink at Witch Creek.

When Joel heard the winery was for sale, he knew it was a chance they couldn’t miss. “We always felt it had so much untapped potential,” he says. Since taking over, Joel has focused on making Witch Creek a relaxed, welcoming place where people can enjoy great wine, food, and events.

Guests can now enjoy an expanded lineup of events including comedy nights, salsa concerts, magic shows, live music, trivia nights, and art parties. Joel shares that their goal is “to create a fun, easygoing environment where guests can relax, connect, and enjoy themselves.”

One of the most exciting updates is the newly revamped outdoor patio. “We’ve given our outdoor patio a serious glow-up and it’s quickly becoming the best spot in Carlsbad to kick back with a glass of wine or throw a killer party.” The expanded space now comfortably accommodates up to 50 guests, perfect for private celebrations such as birthdays, engagement parties, or casual gatherings. Enhancements include a sleek standing bar top, new lighting, ceiling fans, and a mounted TV for catching the game without leaving the bar. The patio is dog-friendly, making it a go-to hangout for visitors with four-legged friends.

Witch Creek also offers a diverse food menu featuring locally made pizza, meatballs, and small bites, alongside a spritz and mocktail menu and craft coffee options.

Whether stopping by for morning coffee, an afternoon spritz in the sun, or an evening concert, Witch Creek Winery remains a vibrant, community-centered destination. From baby showers and birthdays to full-scale weddings, they host celebrations of all kinds and sizes.
